Cremation Association of North America (CANA) holds professional conventions, symposia, summits, trainings, and meetings (collectively, “events”) to enable its members and other industry members to receive continuing education, build professional networks, and discover new products and services. To provide all participants – including members and other attendees, speakers, exhibitors, staff and volunteers – the opportunity to benefit from CANA events, CANA is committed to providing a harassment-free environment for everyone.
CANA requires all participants in its events to share responsibility to create and maintain an environment of respect and dignity in which diverse participants may learn, network, and enjoy the company of others. Respect others’ personal space and refrain from encroaching in a manner that causes them discomfort. Harassment, intimidation, bullying, or threats by any event participant will not be tolerated. Examples of prohibited behaviors include, without limitation, sexual harassment or intimidation (including unwelcome sexual attention, stalking (physical or virtual), or unsolicited physical contact), verbal or physical threats, slander, and discriminatory speech.
Event speakers are asked to frame discussions as openly and inclusively as possible and to be aware of how language or images may be perceived by others. Exhibitors must follow all CANA Exhibits rules and regulations and CANA policies.
All participants are required to observe these rules and behaviors in all event venues, including online venues, and social events. Anyone asked to stop any prohibited conduct is expected to comply immediately. Any participant who believes/perceives that he/she has been exposed to and/or the subject of prohibited conduct should immediately, or as soon as practicable, remove himself or herself from the situation and make a report to CANA staff onsite at the event. CANA’s executive director will initiate an investigation and determine the appropriate course of action, in consultation with other CANA staff, leaders, and legal counsel, as appropriate. Participants against whom a complaint has been alleged will be given a fair opportunity to respond and be heard. Event security and/or local law enforcement may be contacted based on the specific circumstances. CANA may exercise its right to deny any participant found in violation of this policy further access to that event without refund. As appropriate based on specific circumstances, CANA further may exercise its right to deny any participant found in violation of this policy access to future CANA events. A follow-up report will be made to any participant who reports a violation of this policy following the conclusion of CANA’s investigation unless otherwise prohibited by law.
